Expert tips

Published

The support your employees receive during a rehabilitation process can be crucial for their continued work situation. At Falck, we have recently launched career coaching as part of our offering. Here you will find out more about how coaching can be used as a reinforcement of the rehab work.

– There is research showing a correlation between feeling professionally and workplace trapped and poor health. This correlation is also something we at Falck observe among some of the customer employees we meet. Employees undergoing rehabilitation may therefore benefit health-wise from coaching specifically on professional matters, says Ulrika Eurén, Business Developer Career and Organization and Leadership.

Career coaching as part of the rehabilitation process is an integrated and holistic method for addressing early signs of ill health and facilitating return to work.

By offering individualized support and guidance, career coaching can play a crucial role in helping people regain independence, self-confidence, and find direction and meaning in their work.

Support employees holistically

For employees undergoing rehabilitation, returning to work can be challenging. Loss of self-confidence, lack of direction, and uncertainty about their return are common obstacles that can arise during the process.

As a manager, it's important to be aware of these challenges in order to offer the right type of support and resources. Employees who reflect on who they are, what they can do, and what they want are more likely to take control of their own situation and thereby access the energy and strength to set a conscious direction.

– Including career coaching in the rehabilitation process is an investment in the individual's well-being and the company's success. By offering individualised support and guidance, we can help employees regain independence, self-confidence and to identify and take responsibility for their return to work, says Ulrika Eurén.

At Falck, various competencies work together as a team to assist the employee in the best possible way

The role of career coaching in rehab matters

Career coaching is effectively combined with other rehabilitative efforts such as workplace adjustments and can be a powerful resource to help employees navigate through the process and return to work in a meaningful way.

– Career coaching can be utilized throughout the entire rehabilitation process, but it's important that the employee has enough energy to reflect on their situation, engage in exercises, and think ahead, says Ulrika Eurén.

By working together with a career coach, the employee gets the opportunity to explore their interests, values, strengths, development potential, and goals, and create a personal action plan to achieve success and direction in their work situation.

– The intervention is tailored to the individual and can be effectively combined with other rehabilitative efforts such as rehabilitation coordinators at Falck. Various competencies from Falck work as a team to assist the employee in the best possible way, says Ulrika Eurén.
